IRS Warns of Phishing Scams

Posted by: admin at 5:26 pm on February 2nd, 2015

The IRS is warning taxpayers to look out for fake emails/websites looking to steal your personal information.  These "phishing" schemes make use of unsolicited emails and websites that mirror image legitimate sites in an effort to steal personal information from individuals.  If you receive one of these emails, you can report it to the IRS by forwarding it to phishing@irs.gov.  It is important to be aware that the IRS does not contact taxpayers through email/text messaging or any form of social media at this time.

There are also phone scams out there, so beware of these as well.  If someone posing as an IRS employee calls you, do not give them any information over the phone.  Instead, call the IRS back directly at 1-800-829-1040 to find out if this was a legitimate call.

As always, when in doubt, do not respond with any personal information.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns about these issues nor or in the future.
